
Our Story
Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SSHJM) Women and Children First Organisation (WACFO) is a Community Based Organization. WACFO has been working in Amuru District, Northern Uganda for two decades since 2004 during the Lord's Resistance Army’s insurgency.

SSHJM WACFO initially addressed the dire needs of internally displaced people in camps. and has since, developed into a multi-sector agency working towards inclusive development programming i.e. inclusive education, inclusive health through multi-therapy services to referred CWDs, trained Community Based Rehabilitation Volunteers (CBRV), maternal and child health education for prevention of disability, Climatic resilient livelihoods for children and youth with disabilities, household groups and vulnerable women for food, nutrition and income security, training in practices that mitigate climate/environment change effects for resilience and adaptation, and skills training for youth with disabilities in hairdressing, carpentry and tailoring for empowerment to gainful employment.

Our journey began amidst conflict, but our vision has always been one of peace, inclusion, and empowerment. Our Disability Programme centred in our Pabo Center in Amuru District, encompasses an inclusive pre-school, a therapy and rehabilitation center, skills training workshops, a demonstration farm, community-based outreach programs, and socioeconomic enterprises aimed at income generation.
